Club History and General Information
The Clinton Fencing Club was established in 1997 by Austin Young who is currently the head fencing coach of Johns Hopkins University. Seven recent High School State Champions have been members of our club and twice the Star-Ledger has named a CFC fencer as the Fencer of the Year. Over a dozen members of our club have been named All-State by both the Star Ledger and the NJSIAA. After graduation from high school, Clinton's athletes have gone on to compete in the NCAA Championships, including one All-American.
Fencing is a varsity sport in high school and in NCAA Division I, II, and III collegiate programs. Many alumni of our club are now competing at prestigious universities such as Rutgers, Johns Hopkins, NYU, Columbia, MIT, Cleveland State and Temple. Fencing is also a strong national and international amateur sport. At the national level, the club has produced one Division I-A National Champion, one Division III National Champion and a number of NAC medalists. One of our fencers has gone on to compete internationally in the World Cup.
Fencing is excellent exercise that develops and improves speed, strength, endurance, hand-eye coordination, and reaction times. It is unique because it also promotes confidence, discipline, focus and planning. The intellectual aspects of the sport are so important that some call fencing "Physical Chess".
Clinton Fencing Club offers expert instruction in foil, epee and sabre. Our modern, fully equipped facility provides an ideal setting for learning the classic sport of fencing. Group and individual lessons are available at affordable prices.
Our facilities are fully air conditioned!
